Apply for DigiD

DigiD stands for Digital Identity. You use your DigiD to identify yourself on the internet. This way, organisations know that they are actually dealing with you. Many government organisations in the European Netherlands now use DigiD. For example, the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, the Social Insurance Bank and the Employee Insurance Agency. You can use their online services with your DigiD.

As a Dutch citizen in Aruba, Curaçao or Sint Maarten, you can activate a DigiD. Read below which steps to take.

Step 1: Apply for DigiD online

Follow the online steps for 'Applying for DigiD (abroad)'. After you have completed the application, you will receive a code by text message and e-mail. You will need this code to collect the activation code from the Representation in Oranjestad, Willemstad or Philipsburg.

Step 2: Appointment to retrieve activation code

You make an appointment at the Representation in Oranjestad, Willemstad or Philipsburg to collect the activation code. PLEASE NOTE: You must collect the activation code yourself within 30 days of the application date.

Please bring the following documents with you to the appointment:

  • The code you received by text message and e-mail
  • Your Dutch passport or ID card (of which you entered the document number during the application)
  • Your citizen service number (BSN) on paper, if that number is not in the passport

Step 3: Activate DigiD

You can activate your DigiD at www.digid.nl with the activation code that you collected from the Representation.
